Why Twitch chat on a phone is frustrating
The official Twitch app is built for watching. Chat is a strip under the video, shows only Twitch’s own emotes and has almost no settings. In most communities, though, half the chat is 7TV, BTTV and FFZ emotes. In the Twitch app those show up as plain words.
If you use Chatterino or a browser extension on your PC, you notice the difference the moment you switch to your phone.
What JilChat does differently
JilChat puts chat first. You sign in with Twitch, open one or more channels and read chat the way it looks on a PC.
- Emotes from Twitch, 7TV, BTTV, FrankerFaceZ and FFZ:AP, animated and with 7TV paints
- Badges from Twitch, 7TV, FFZ, Chatterino and JilChat
- Multiple chats open at once (Pro)
- Highlight rules for your name, specific users or keywords
- Push notifications for matches, even when the app is closed (Pro)
- Timeout, ban and delete right on the message when you are a mod
- For streamers: alerts such as subs in their own panel, apart from chat
- Built-in Twitch player, or chat alone as a second screen
- Adjustable font size, spacing, colours and density
Who it is for
Viewers who have the stream on a TV or monitor and chat in their hand. Moderators who want to step in while away from the desk. Streamers who want subs and other alerts apart from chat. And anyone whose chat is unreadable without 7TV.
If Twitch’s own emotes are enough and you watch in the Twitch app anyway, you do not need JilChat.
Free, with an optional Pro plan
Reading and writing chat, every emote and badge provider, moderation, image upload and up to three highlight rules are free. Pro is €2.99 per month or €29.99 per year and adds multiple chats at once, push notifications, video upload, voice messages and unlimited highlights, among other things.
